Dr. Nyerere Anyim, APC founding member and Abia’s first governorship candidate in 2015, says the party’s peaceful ward, LG, and state congresses show the party is on track to reclaim power in 2027.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday from his Agburuike Isi-ugwu village, in Obingwa LGA of Abia State, Dr. Nyerere admitted that previous congresses of the APC in time past were marred by infighting, violence, disagreements among members, adding that the last Congress at various levels was rancour free.
According to him, APC in the past was not fashionable, lacked direction and focus, emphasising that such is not the case today as the APC is now the beautiful bride, with its structures working and complementing each other.
”All this while, our congresses, conventions, have been characterised with what I call violence, infighting. But to the glory of God, the last congress, starting from the ward, local government, and state, were all peaceful, rancour free, brotherly.
”To the glory of God, APC has come to stay, and as a party. And in Abia, we set what I call “an exemplary example”, for other states to follow. The peaceful conduct of our congress, the consensus approach we used, everything worked seamlessly.”
Dr. Nyerere who attributed the decorum, synergy, cohesion in Abia APC today to the relentless efforts of the new leadership, also appreciated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu for the energy he has so far shown in ensuring that the party is properly repositioned in Abia and beyond.
According to the entrepreneur, Rt. Hon. Kalu has exhibited good leadership qualities expected of a leader, adding that he has continued to ensure that grievances among party members are promptly addressed to avert an implosion which impeded the progress of the party in the past.
”Rt. Hon. Kalu has continued to inspire many people. He is today, the leader of APC in Abia State. In his wisdom, he has continuously charged all to ensure that the party is taken to the grassroots, where the party belongs. It is an experiment well carried out and it worked at ward, local government and at State levels.”
He insisted that APC in Abia and South-East, have one mandate which is ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is returned to finish the good works he has been doing, emphasising that it is also their priority to ensure that those gunning for positions through the platform of the party are delivered come 2027.
