Lagos State Govt Pledges to Continue Priortising Welfare of Retirees

Must read

‎Lagos State Government has pledged to continue prioritising the welfare of retirees and has distributed welfare packages to pensioners in different parts of the state.

‎The government said the initiative is a timely intervention to support senior citizens ahead the Yuletide season.

‎The exercise, held on Tuesday at the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, was organised by the Lagos State Pension Commission.

‎Addressing the gathering, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, represented by the Director, Post Service Department, Public Service Office, Bukola Durodola, said the gesture reflected the administration’s resolve to honour retirees whose labour and sacrifice helped build and sustain public institutions in the state.

‎The HOS expressed satisfaction with the turnout and well-being of the pensioners, describing them as “retired but not tired.”

‎He noted that the welfare package distribution was timely, given the rising cost of living, especially as the festive period approaches, emphasising that the support was meant to provide relief and reassure retirees that they remain valued members of the public service family.

‎Agoro noted that the programme was designed as a two-day exercise, starting in the Ikeja Division, with simultaneous distributions in Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos, and Epe divisions to ensure equity, convenience, and fairness.

‎He assured pensioners of government’s continued commitment to prompt payment of pensions, health-related initiatives and proactive welfare programmes aimed at guaranteeing peaceful and fulfilling retirement years.

‎Also speaking, the Director-General of LASPEC, Babalola Obilana, said the initiative was designed not merely to distribute items but to honour pensioners for their years of dedicated service to the state.
