Kwara State Police Command has condemned mob violence, arson, and extra-judicial killings in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten LGA, on May 30, 2026.
According to the police, an altercation between an unidentified Fulani man and Islamic scholar Alh. Mohammed Ilyasu left both with severe machete injuries. They were rushed to hospital but both died.
Afterward, irate youths stormed the hospital, seized the assailant’s corpse and set it ablaze. The mob also set a passerby on fire and burnt about 10 buildings belonging to Fulani residents, including the home of Ardo Fulani, Alhaji Hassan.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said a joint team of police and military personnel was deployed to restore order, and security has since been reinforced in the area.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ojo Adekimi described the acts as “criminal, barbaric, and a direct affront to the rule of law”, warning that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
The statement revealed that the command has launched a manhunt for all suspects, urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue.
