The site is renowned for an extraordinary occurrence where a warm spring and a cold spring emerge from the same hillside and flow side by side for more than 100 metres before merging at a common confluence. Remarkably, both streams retain their distinct temperatures even after they meet.
The warm spring has a temperature of about 70 degrees Celsius, while the cold spring remains at approximately 37 degrees Celsius. This rare phenomenon allows visitors to experience the unusual sensation of placing one hand in warm water and the other in cold water at virtually the same location.
Geologists regard Ikogosi as one of the world’s rare geological formations. It is widely recognised as the only known warm and cold spring of its kind in Africa and among a very small number of such natural occurrences globally.
