The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake, has directed the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency to provide hourly updates on seismic activities around Abuja for review and possible escalation to other relevant agencies.

‎Alake gave the directive following a minor earth tremor recorded in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at about 11am.

‎In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Lara Owoeye-Wise, the Minister urged residents of the FCT to remain calm and go about their normal activities without anxiety.

‎He assured that proactive measures have been deployed to ensure the safety of lives and property in the nation’s capital.
‎
‎The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency said it is closely monitoring developments and will keep the public informed on any further changes.
