MAKURDI – The Benue State Government has warned that anyone caught destroying public utilities and billboards across the state will face the full weight of the law.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Chief Solomon Iorpev, the government said it had observed deliberate acts of vandalism by “criminal and retrogressive elements” aimed at undermining the developmental strides of the Alia-led administration.
The statement described the acts as unacceptable and vowed that there would be “no sacred cows and no exceptions” in dealing with offenders.
To curb the trend, the government announced the constitution of a dedicated Task Force charged with monitoring, protecting and securing all public utilities and billboards in the state.
According to the statement, the Task Force will work closely with security agencies to identify, apprehend and prosecute persons found engaging in the criminal acts.
“The Alia-led Administration reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the rule of law and to safeguarding public and private investments that continue to drive growth and development across the State,” the statement read.
The government assured law-abiding citizens, investors and stakeholders of its readiness to protect their legitimate endeavors from miscreants.
It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity around public installations to security agencies or the Task Force.
“Let it be clearly understood that this Administration will not fold its arms while criminal elements destroy public assets and threaten the peace and progress of our State,” the statement added.
