OTUKPO — Police in Benue State have arrested one suspect in connection with an attack on Fulani herders that left two persons with gunshot injuries and led to the rustling of an unspecified number of cattle in Otukpo Local Government Area.
According to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X handle, the incident occurred at about 3:41 a.m. on July 24 at Ipugbogbo, Ugboju in Otukpo LGA.
Sources said the Divisional Police Officer of Ogoli Division received a distress call that armed men had attacked a group of herders, shot two of them and made away with their cattle.
The DPO immediately mobilised patrol teams to the scene, where the victims, identified as Egomo Pius Sunday, 36, and Oseni Sani, 70, were rescued with gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were evacuated to Methodist Hospital, Ogoli, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested one suspect, Ibrahim Bamanyi, in connection with the attack.
Police sources said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and recover the rustled cattle. The case is under investigation.
