The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has charged legal practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law and defending democratic principles as Nigeria approaches another critical election cycle.

‎Osigwe gave the charge on Wednesday at the NBA Ikorodu Branch Annual General Meeting held in Lagos.
‎
‎He commended the Branch for its remarkable achievements under the current administration and congratulated its leadership on a successful tenure.
‎
‎The NBA President particularly appreciated the Branch for conducting a peaceful and rancour-free election, describing it as a reflection of the spirit of unity, maturity, and togetherness that continues to define the Ikorodu Bar.
‎
‎He expressed confidence that the same ideals would guide the forthcoming national elections of the Association, noting that members must remain committed to projecting the NBA in a positive light and preserving its cherished values.
‎
‎Speaking on the broader national landscape, Osigwe observed that Nigeria is presently at a critical democratic juncture, with political activities gathering momentum across the country.
‎
‎He noted that lawyers and the courts would inevitably play significant roles in resolving emerging political and electoral disputes, urging legal practitioners to remain steadfast in their duty to uphold the rule of law, defend democratic principles, and protect the integrity of the justice system.

‎The NBA President also expressed his appreciation to members of the Ikorodu Branch for their unwavering support and goodwill, acknowledging the Branch’s consistent contributions to the growth and progress of the Association.
