Dr. Kelechi Anosike has emerged the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State after defeating Chief John Okiyi Kalu and Olugu Kalu Ugba.
Announcing the result on Sunday at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, Abia PDP Chairman Elder Abraham Amah said Anosike polled 16,543 votes. John Okiyi Kalu secured 3,145 votes, while Olugu Kalu Ugba polled 961 votes. Amah was given the nod to announce the results.
He said the primaries were conducted in 184 wards across the state, with 179 wards submitting their results. The remaining wards did not submit theirs.
Applauding members of the PDP national committee, INEC, security agencies, and the State Working Committee, Amah said their sacrifices and commitment ensured the primaries were successful.
With Anosike’s emergence, both the APC and PDP in Abia have zoned their governorship tickets to Abia Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
