Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed commanders to uphold fundamental human rights and safety of all Nigerians in discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
Colonel Appolonia Anele, acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that respect for human rights is critical to operational success and national stability.
Shaibu gave the charge on March 17, 2026, while delivering a lecture on his Command Philosophy to Army War College participants in Abuja.
Shaibu emphasised that strict adherence to international humanitarian law, rules of engagement, and protocols protects civilians, enhances public trust, and supports intelligence-driven operations.
He noted that the Nigerian Army’s concepts have shaped its approach to combating security challenges.
The COAS urged participants to imbibe his Command Philosophy, prioritising the Soldier First Concept, focusing on personnel welfare, professionalism, administration, operational readiness, cooperation, and leadership.
