‎Security expert, Bakatsine while confirming the development in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, said the IED was allegedly planted by suspected bandits, adding that it detonated Wednesday morning.

‎‎According to him, the explosive device went off when a fully loaded commercial trailer transporting cement drove over it.

‎He added that the situation caused widespread panic and raised fresh concerns about the worsening security situation in the area.

‎‎Bakatsine said the incident has further made residents and community leaders to intensify calls for security agencies to urgently intensify patrols and surveillance along the highway to prevent further attacks.

He also added that residents and community leaders have also offered prayers for the victims and appealed for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Bakatwine posted, “How many more lives must be endangered before decisive and sustained security measures are implemented to safeguard commuters along this vital route?”
