Worried by the latest attack by gunmen that invaded Gwana district in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State, Amnesty International says these killings are indeed getting out of hand.
Reacting to the invasion of Gwana district in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi state by gunmen in a post on its verified X handle, Amnesty International said the attack demonstrates a contemptible disregard for human life.
Reports say at least 4 persons were killed and dozens of people abducted in the evening of Friday, February 20, 2026.
According to Amnesty International, the killings and abductions had also triggered mass displacement.
The human rights group also expressed worry that unspecified number of women and girls have also been abducted.
It also decried that the unfortunate attack took place at a time when the villagers were breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan, emphasising that this demonstrates escalating security crisis that is making life difficult for rural communities.
According to Amnesty International, the crisis is expanding and getting out of hand, calling on authorities in Nigeria to ensure the protection of lives of the people and bring the suspected perpetrators to book.
The group said, “The attack is vicious and demonstrate a contemptible disregard for human life. This deplorable attack took place at a time when the villagers were breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan and demonstrates escalating security crisis that is making life a hell for rural communities.
This crisis is expanding and getting out of hand. The Nigerian authorities must do more to protect lives of the people and bring the suspected perpetrators of all such attacks to justice.”
