A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has decried the wanton killings in Kwara, Katsina, Benue, and other parts of the country.
The former VP said the murder of any Nigerian is an unforgivable failure.
Speaking on Thursday in a statement he personally signed, following the reported killings of over 200 people across the states this week, Atiku added that the killings have left him in pains and called on the authorities to ensure proactive security.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said the reported massacres in parts of Kwara, Katsina and Benue are a damning confirmation that Nigeria has descended into a killing field.
He said the scale and frequency of these attacks expose a catastrophic failure of the state to protect the lives of its citizens, especially the most vulnerable.
Atiku called on the current APC led government to take decisive action to stem the tide, emphasising that empty condemnations after mass burials are no longer acceptable.
He stated that security must be proactive, deliberate and preventive, not reactive, adding that communities repeatedly attacked must not be left as open hunting grounds for criminals.
