‎Troops Kill 4 Bandits, Rescue 2 Hostages in Benue, Taraba‎

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, neutralised 4 criminals and rescued 2 kidnapped victims in coordinated operations across Benue and Taraba states between May 24 and 31, 2026.

‎The Acting Media Information Officer, Lt Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, said the operations also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with ammunition and the dismantling of a drug trafficking network.

‎In Benue, troops responding to an armed herder attack along Gbajimba–Agasha road in Guma LGA on May 24 evacuated 2 injured locals for treatment and launched a manhunt for the attackers.

‎The same day in Taraba, troops engaged armed robbers along Rafin Kada–Donga road, killing 2 and recovering one AK-47 rifle, 3 magazines, ammunition and N39,950 cash.

‎On May 25, troops in Makurdi LGA intercepted kidnappers along Antegh–Zongo road. The abductors fled and abandoned 2 victims who were reunited with their families. One suspect was arrested.

‎In a separate intelligence-led operation, troops raided a drug syndicate in Makurdi on May 23 and May 27, recovering 641 parcels of illicit drugs, N821,000 cash, a motorcycle and arresting 4 suspects. The suspects will be handed over to NDLEA.

‎The latest operation on May 31 saw troops raid a bandit enclave at Imande Igigh in Katsina-Ala LGA, neutralising 2 bandits and recovering ammunition.

‎Force Commander, Maj Gen Moses Gara, commended the troops and urged communities to report suspicious activities.
