Armed men believed to be members of the Lakurawa group attacked Dadin-Kowa community in Maiyama LGA, Kebbi State last nigh during Taraweeh prayers, killing several residents and injuring many others.
‎‎The assailants also desecrated the mosque, a sacred place of worship for the community.
‎‎According to security expert, Bakatsine, who posted about the incident on X on Thursday, “Last night, Lakurawa armed group stormed Dadin-Kowa community… targeting residents during Taraweeh prayers. Several residents were killed, many injured, and the mosque… was violated.”
‎The attack has sparked concern, with many questioning how perpetrators can claim to be Muslims while committing such atrocities.
‎Attacks during Ramadan in Nigeria have increased, with bandits and insurgent groups targeting communities in Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Benue, causing significant loss of life and displacement.
‎In recent incidents, bandits killed 50 people in Niger State in January 2026, and terrorists attacked Abande community in Benue State in February 2026, killing 17 people.
‎The Nigerian government has assured the public of its efforts to address the security situation, with the military conducting operations against bandits and insurgent groups.
