Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, were attacked in an alleged assassination attempt in Benin City, Edo State, on Tuesday.

‎National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Yunusa, Tanko told newsmen that the chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Mr Peter Obi and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, were in Benin City to witness the declaration of Barrister Olumide Akpata into the ADC and were attacked by suspected assassins.

‎In photos and videos circulating online, several SUV windscreens were smashed, while the gate leading to Odigie-Oyegun’s residence was riddled with bullets.

Recall that Olumide Akpata contested in the Edo State gubernatorial election in September 2024 as the Labour Party candidate. He emerged as the Labour Party candidate after winning the party’s primary election with 316 votes out of 340.
