A young man in his 20s was killed in a fatal road accident on Sunday morning in Ndiolumbe Autonomous Community, near the Church of Christ, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.

‎The accident occurred around 8am at Akpuruta, Ndiolumbe Autonomous Community, along the busy Ururuka Road. It involved a brown Toyota Camry car and a motorcycle.

‎An eyewitness attributed the crash to excessive speeding, stating that the Camry driver was travelling at high speed before ramming into the motorcyclist. The impact reportedly threw the victim off the bike and damaged a roadside shop at the scene.

‎The eyewitness, who identified the driver only by the nickname “Star Boy”, alleged that he had been involved in several road accidents in the past and had purchased the Camry just two days earlier, on Friday.

‎According to the witness, the deceased was a palm cutter who hailed from a community in Omoba, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, but resided in Umuokoro within the same local government area. He was said to be the only son of his parents and the family’s breadwinner.

‎The witness further disclosed that the young man had come to Ndiolumbe to collect the balance of payment for palm fronds he was contracted to cut for a client before the unfortunate incident. He also revealed that the victim’s sister is scheduled for burial on Friday.

‎The eyewitness told Newsbuka that efforts to rush the victim to a hospital were unsuccessful, as he died instantly from the impact.

‎Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the Camry driver was said to be in custody at the Omoba Divisional Police Station. Sources said he was taken there by a villager to prevent an angry mob from lynching him.

‎The latest tragedy has revived concerns about road safety in the community. Only a few weeks ago, a 15-year-old girl, Amarachi Chidiebere, narrowly escaped death after she was almost crushed by a tipper truck at the popular Ahia Orie Market in Ndiolumbe Autonomous Community.

‎That incident attracted the attention of traders, community members and passers-by. The girl reportedly underwent successful abdominal surgery and is currently recuperating at the Abia State Teaching Hospital Aba.
