A retired Controller of Corrections and Abia-born royal, Chief Felix Chinedu Madumere, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his Old Umuahia Ward, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Chief Madumere declared his membership of the party on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, an event that coincided with his conferment as Onochie I of Old Umuahia. He said his decision to formally align with the APC followed years of admiration for the party, even while he was still in public service.
According to him, the timing was right to make his support official, noting that he joined with the aim of strengthening the party’s presence and capacity in Old Umuahia, Umuahia South, Abia State and the country at large.
“APC is a party I have admired even during my days in service. I am joining to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and repositioning of the party, particularly as it prepares for the 2027 elections,” he said.
“I am joining like minds who have already made significant sacrifices to move the party forward. I assure everyone that I am here to play my part in advancing the party.”
He pledged his commitment to working with party members to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates seeking election or re-election, stressing that his decision was driven by a desire to collaborate and add value rather than disrupt existing structures within his ward.
While formally presenting him to the APC family, the Old Umuahia Ward Chairman, Nze Cyprian Oriaku, welcomed Chief Madumere and commended him for his decision to join the party. He emphasised that the APC operates an inclusive system that accommodates all members without discrimination.
Oriaku assured him of full integration into party activities, including timely notification of ward meetings and other engagements as preparations intensify towards the 2027 general election.
Also speaking, a party chieftain and leader in Umuahia South, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, described Chief Madumere as a valuable addition whose experience would help strengthen the party’s structure and outreach in the zone.
Nwosu reiterated that equality and inclusiveness remain core principles of the APC, urging the new member to deploy his wealth of public service experience for the benefit of the party. He added that the party’s leadership at the federal level had been duly informed of Chief Madumere’s decision to join, including the National Welfare Secretary, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Nwosu said the APC in Abia State was determined to expand its influence and offer a broad-based, inclusive approach to governance, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the state.
