As part of efforts to rid the country of fake drugs, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, on Thursday, destroyed unwholesome and substandard products worth over N5bn in Nasarawa State.
Newsbuka gathered that the unwholesome and substandard products, which were seized from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau states of the North-Central region, were destroyed at the Angwan Rere dumpsite in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
During the exercise, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the fake products were confiscated by the agency’s personnel during routine monitoring exercises.
Adeyeye, represented at the event by the North-Central Zonal Director of the agency, Kenneth Azikiwe, said the exercise was aimed at preventing such dangerous products from re-entering into the markets and causing harm.
According to her, some of the seized products include: fake drugs, falsified medical devices, unsafe cosmetics, fake detergents and expired chemicals.
The DG assured that NAFDAC would continue to ensure that only the right quality products are available for sale and consumption in the country.
Adeyeye appealed to the public to provide the agency with useful information on the activities of those either selling fake products or producing substandard products that constitute threats to human life.
Responding to the feat on behalf of the state government, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Security and Safety Matters, Usman Baba, appreciated NAFDAC for sanitising the state and ensuring that only genuine products are sold for human consumption.
