Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said that building a trillion-dollar economy for the state rests on reliable and affordable energy to power both macro and micro economies.
The Governor added that the state has moved closer to that goal after the commissioning of the Orashi Electricity Company Limited 15MVA, 33/11KV Injection Substation, Owerri, by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
Posting on his verified X handle on Saturday, Governor Uzodimma said the Orashi Electricity Company Limited 15MVA, 33/11KV Injection Sub-station, is the first phase of a bold power initiative that will light homes, energize businesses, and unlock productivity across the state.
He further stated that the progress is centered on President Bola Tinubu’s visionary leadership in signing the Electricity Act which empowered states to chart their own energy future, and approving the transfer of the long-abandoned Egbema Power Plant to Imo State, accelerating the journey to energy sovereignty.
Governor Uzodimma also revealed further benefits the state stands to gain from the new sub-station, saying, “The 45-kilometre distribution network will deliver stable electricity, ease the cost of doing business, and end the hardship caused by epileptic supply.
Continuing, “Operated within the Orashi Energy Free Trade Zone and supported by over 200 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves, we are harnessing our resources to serve all 27 LGAs and drive sustainable growth,” Uzodimma concluded.
