The Federal Government on Sunday sent a high-powered delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, following the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

‎President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, led the delegation. Other members were National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Inspector-General of Police IGP Tunji Disu; Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa (retd); and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare.

‎The delegation conveyed Tinubu’s deep concern and commitment to securing the safe return of the victims.

‎As an immediate measure, the President approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State in collaboration with the state government. He also directed a specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts for the victims’ release.

‎Recall that community leaders had requested a military base. The delegation said the request would be conveyed to the President for consideration.

‎Addressing residents in English and Yoruba, Gbajabiamila said Tinubu’s decision to deploy the nation’s top security leadership reflected his resolve to use every available resource for the rescue.

‎Quoting the Chief of Staff, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said: “Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely. He has issued all necessary directives and is providing every support required by our security agencies.”

‎Gbajabiamila added: “Your pain and anxiety are understood. By the grace of God, your children will return safely to your arms. Mr. President also saw appeals from parents and community members urging caution. Let me assure you the operation will be intelligence-led and carefully coordinated, deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic measures.”

‎The delegation also visited the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, HRM Kabiyesi Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, to commiserate with him and his people.

‎They met Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, wife of the deceased school teacher, and her two children. Gbajabiamila delivered the President’s condolences with a promise that the family “will not suffer.”
