The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State has unveiled Dr. Godswill Agu Egbe as its Deputy Governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The unveiling was performed by the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Eric Opah, at the party’s Secretariat in Umuahia on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Chief Opah said the selection of his running mate followed due diligence and wide consultations in line with party doctrine.
He explained that after the nomination came to him as candidate, the first thing he did was to work closely with Dr. Egbe for two weeks to examine his character and compatibility, noting that the position of running mate and deputy governor often comes with disagreements between principal and deputy.
Opah disclosed that he went a step further to verify Egbe’s background and business record.
According to him, he discovered Egbe worked with BUA and decided to reach out to the company, being a firm he had done business with, to make inquiries.
He said BUA returned a very good recommendation of Dr. Egbe, adding that he also sampled the opinions of party leaders and they all agreed to the choice.
”This is a man of integrity and APC will be proud of,” Opah said.
Opah declared that the party is running the 2027 governorship election in the state to win, adding: “Dr. Godswill Agu Egbe has keyed into the agenda of our manifesto, the vision to change Abia. We will work in honesty to use Abia money to work for Abia.”
He added that the APC is coming to run a transparent government in Abia State, saying they will not claim 400 roads when they did not construct up to 20, emphasising that Abians will feel the positive impact of the APC administration in the state.
In his remarks, the Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, who formally presented Egbe to the party, said the party is excited that in its wisdom it has chosen a man of many parts.
”Today we are excited that the party in its wisdom has chosen a man of many parts, a man of many feats and a man whose name is not just God’s will but equally has goodwill of the people,” Chukwu stated.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Godswill Agu Egbe thanked his principal and pledged total loyalty and subordination to leadership, with commitment to work with the vision of his principal and align fully with the party’s manifesto.
”My commitment is my total subordination to leadership. I will work with the vision of my principal, I will align with the manifesto,” Egbe said.
He declared that Abia APC will deliver massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and warned against anyone outside the party structure attempting to claim credit for the work of the party.
”We are running this election to win. Let nobody go to claim that the vote he will get in our state is his doing, it is of APC. We are the APC and we are the people that will bring that vote,” he added.
