The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Abia State Chapter, has advised the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Abia State during the 2023 general election, Bishop Prof. Emeka Nwankpa against joining the party through wrong channel.

‎There are online reports that Nwankpa had formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with over 5,000 of his supporters.

‎But reacting to the reports of Nwankpa’s defection to ADC on Sunday in a statement made available to newsmen, the Publicity Secretary, Abia ADC, Rev. Dr. Phil Collins Okeiyi, said the party in the state recognises only Chief Emole Onwuasoanya’s leadership.

‎According to the statement, Obinna Don Norman and the three servants who travelled along with him during the defection, had long been suspended by the party, hence does not represent ADC Abia State.

‎The ADC admitted that it is open to welcome all the coalition partners and good spirited political leaders across all party lines and affiliations, but insisted that the coalition partners, must deal with the authentic and recognised arm of the ADC in the state.

‎While declaring its position on the group led by Don Norman Obinna, Abia ADC, said any party card that had been issued to Dr. Prof. Nwankpa by these four suspended individuals is fake and would not be said to have emanated or issued by ADC Abia State neither was it approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

‎The statement reads: “As much as the party welcomes every coalition partner and good spirited political leaders across all party lines and affiliations, the ADC Abia State under the leadership of Chief Emole Onwuasoanya wishes to inform Bishop Emeka Nwankpa and other well meaning Abians that Don Norman Obinna and the three servants who travelled along with him has long being suspended by the party and does not represent ADC Abia State.

‎”Any party card issued by these four suspended individuals are fake and was never issued by ADC Abia State neither was it approved by the party’s NWC.”

‎The party also informed the people of Isiala Ngwa North and South that Chief Chimezie Ozems, is not known to the party leadership as he was not elected by congress as chairman and has no constitutional right to speak for the people of Isiala Ngwa North and South of ADC party.

‎While reaffirming the authenticity of Chief Ralphael Nwachukwu and Elder Chief Ugochukwu Ugorji, ADC Abia State chapter, insisted that the duo are duly elected Chairmen of Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South local government areas.

‎The statement added that the party is ready to welcome Abians and Nigerians of good political will to join the ADC, emphasising that it will not allow anyone to be deceived by the suspended few.

‎It further stressed that the constitution of ADC remains supreme, maintaining that as a law abiding party that believes in rule of law, the ADC has come up with this notice and warning, insisting that Don Norman Obinna and his political associates are not members of ADC State Working committee as they have long been suspended from the party.
