December 27 marked a defining and unforgettable moment in Awomukwu community, Ikwuano Local Government Area, as eminent legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr Barrister Monday Ubani, honoured his late mother, Nsomma Gladys Ubani, with a burial ceremony that echoed far beyond Abia State. The day was not merely about farewell, but about legacy, honour, and a life so impactful that it drew the attention of the nation.
Rather than the quiet solemnity traditionally associated with funerals, the burial evolved into a vibrant celebration of unity and gratitude. From the early hours of the morning, Awomukwu overflowed with dignitaries, traditional rulers, senior legal minds, captains of industry, and cultural leaders, turning the once calm community into a bustling national convergence point and effectively placing Abia State on pause.
The ambience of the ceremony spoke volumes. Colourful and tasteful décor blended perfectly with soothing music and flawless coordination, creating an atmosphere that balanced solemn reflection with joyful celebration. Everywhere wore a look of warmth and elegance, as guests moved freely, soaking in the celebratory spirit of a fulfilled life well lived.
Dr Ubani and his wife stood at the heart of the occasion, receiving guests with humility, grace, and visible gratitude. Their composure reflected deep respect and love as they paid glowing tribute to their mother and mother in law, a matriarch whose 90 years on earth were defined by discipline, integrity, unity, and enduring family values.
Political presence added remarkable national weight to the event. Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senate President Godswill Akpabio led a distinguished list of senators, members of the House of Representatives, state lawmakers, and top government officials, underscoring the deep respect accorded the Ubani family.

The ceremony further sparkled with celebrity glamour as music star KCee Limpopo, respected Nollywood veteran Kanayo O Kanayo, and business mogul E Money arrived in style, drawing admiration and excitement from guests and onlookers, and adding a festive glow to the already colourful gathering.
As guests were lavishly entertained with an impressive spread of local delicacies and intercontinental cuisines, Dr Barrister Monday Ubani expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who stood with his family. He described the overwhelming turnout as a powerful reminder that his mother’s values live on, noting that the ceremony transformed a moment of grief into a national celebration of love, gratitude, unity, and an enduring legacy befitting a revered matriarch.
