Police in Oyo have arrested some suspected hoodlums over alleged attack on officials of the State Fire Service in Saki local government area of the State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reforms, Dr Akinwande Moroof, confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding that the agency’s officials were attacked at Biseri Filling Station Orogun, Isale Adinni, Saki.
According to him, a distress call was received around 19:45hrs on Thursday through a running caller, Alhaji Aiki, with motorcycle registration number unknown to Biseri filling station on fire at Orogun, Isale Adinni, Saki.
He added that by 19:46hrs, fire tender OY 173 A09, men, CFS Ayegbokiki in-charge, left for the scene.
Moroof said while visiting the scene of the fire, hundreds of angry mob waylaid and attacked the crew members with dangerous weapons, adding that in the process, the firemen sustained injuries and the fire tender was also vandalized to the extent that the windshield was smashed, the body of the vehicle was severely marked with strikes of cutlasses and stones.
He informed that the crew managed to escape during the attacks and finally report the ugly incident at the divisional police headquarters Saki.
Moroof enjoined the public to co-operate with firemen in the course of discharging their duties, while warning unscrupulous elements to desist from attacking firemen whilst on their duties as the law will not hesitate to deal with anyone that attacks or obstructs firemen on duty.
