OKO, ANAMBRA — A rescue operation is currently ongoing after a 60-room apartment building reportedly collapsed near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

‎The incident occurred close to the school campus, an area known for its high student population and dense off-campus hostels.

‎As at press time, the exact number of occupants affected has not been confirmed. Emergency responders including local volunteers, security operatives, and residents were at the scene combing through the rubble in search of possible trapped persons.

Authorities of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, are yet to issue an official casualty figure. The cause of the collapse is also yet to be determined.

‎Oko community and the Federal Polytechnic Oko have recorded building collapse incidents in the past, with previous cases linked to substandard materials and heavy rainfall.
