As the 2027 election campaign is set to kick off in August, incumbent lawmakers across the country will have serious questions to answer about their performance and impact on their constituencies.
The key issues will be clear: What bills did they sponsor? How did the laws they made improve the lives of Nigerians? And did they use their networks effectively to create jobs and attract development?
In Isiukwato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, these questions are even more urgent. The truth is, the constituency has been largely absent from the national conversation since 2023. We sent an inexperienced representative who has struggled to navigate the system and attract the dividends of democracy to our people.
The result is obvious. Isiukwato/Umunneochi lost out at the national level because there was no vibrant voice to canvass for our interests.
But we can correct this in 2027 by ensuring the return of Hon. Barr. Nkiruka Onyejeocha.
Onyejeocha’s track record speaks for itself. Her previous years in the National Assembly were marked by active representation, bill sponsorship, and real opportunities for the sons and daughters of Isiukwato/Umunneochi. She built relationships, earned the trust of colleagues, and understood how the legislative process works.
That experience matters. In the House of Representatives, influence is earned over time. When an experienced member sponsors or supports a bill, it carries weight because of their credibility and history.
Replacing such a person with a newcomer means starting all over again. It takes years to learn the system, build alliances, and gain the same level of respect. We cannot afford to lose the ground we already have.
With Onyejeocha back, Isiukwato/Umunneochi will again enjoy strong representation, more employment opportunities, and access to social interventions, including the free medical outreaches she is known for. She has demonstrated the courage and capacity expected of a legislator, and she does not make excuses.
The records are there for all to see. Onyejeocha was never outperformed by her successor. For a constituency in dire need of growth and progress like ours, experience is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
As we approach 2027, let us be guided by facts, not sentiments. Let us vote for quality, for influence, and for results.
Let us vote wisely. Let us vote Onyejeocha to bring Isiukwato/Umunneochi back to the center of national development.
