Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/Academic Staff Union of Universities, FGN/ASUU, Agreement in the state, including the payment of arrears.
According to a statement by the Director of Press and Media Affairs, Mamma Mohammed, the approval covers Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, Professorial Allowance, and Earned Academic Allowance, EAA.
The statement said Governor Buni’s approval followed the report and recommendations of the State Fact-Finding Committee on the review of welfare and remuneration of academic staff. The report was earlier presented to the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje.
The committee had visited selected state-owned universities across Nigeria to investigate, compare, and report on prevailing practices in other states.
Governor Buni directed that payment of the approved allowances should commence with effect from August 2026. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence, promoting industrial harmony, and sustaining quality higher education in Yobe State.
With the approval, Yobe becomes one of the leading states implementing the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement aimed at enhancing staff welfare and improving academic excellence.
The Chairman of ASUU, Yobe State University, Muhammad Adam, expressed appreciation to Governor Buni for his commitment to the welfare of union members and support for quality education.
He urged members to reciprocate the gesture through dedication to duty, research, and maintenance of industrial harmony.
