…warns Fleet Operators Against Violations
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, RS9.3 Abia State Sector Command has commenced the 2026 Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme, RTSSS, Enforcement Week across the state.
A statement signed by the Sector Public Education Officer, CRC J.K. Igbonekwu, the Sector Commander, CC Ngozi I. Ezeoma on Saturday, said the special nationwide operation will run from Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 17, 2026.
According to the statement, the exercise is in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal and the administrative instruction issued by the Corps Transport Standardisation Office in Abuja.
Ezeoma stated that the exercise is aimed at strengthening compliance with the RTSSS among fleet operators, reducing road traffic crashes, and supporting the Corps’ strategic goal of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries through data-driven interventions.
She listed the focus areas to include increasing awareness of the RTSSS, encouraging registration of unregistered fleet operators, ensuring compliance with Speed Limiting Device, SLD, installation, promoting the use of approved passenger manifests, ensuring school bus operators comply with RTSSS regulations, and increasing the use of RTSSS certification stickers.
The Sector Commander disclosed that enforcement teams across Abia State will carry out intensive patrols, public enlightenment campaigns, and where necessary, prosecute offenders through Mobile Court sittings.
She added that random drug and alcohol tests may also be conducted on drivers of fleet operators during the exercise.
Ezeoma assured members of the public that adequate personnel and logistics have been deployed across strategic routes within the state to ensure effective enforcement, prompt rescue services where necessary, and minimal inconvenience to law-abiding road users.
She appealed to fleet operators, transport companies, school bus operators and commercial drivers to take advantage of the enforcement week to regularize their operations and comply fully with all road safety regulations.
”The RTSSS is not intended to punish operators but to promote professionalism, improve fleet safety management and protect the lives of motorists and passengers. We therefore urge all fleet operators in Abia State to cooperate with the Corps throughout the exercise,” she stated.
The FRSC Abia State Sector Command also called on the motoring public to support the Corps by reporting reckless driving and other traffic violations, while assuring residents of its unwavering commitment to safer roads across the state.
