‎Borno Police Command Confirms Death of 4 People in Banki Town Explosion

Borno State Police Command has confirmed that four children died in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device, IED, in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area.

‎Spokesperson of the Police in the state, ASP Keneth Daso in a statement, said the blast occurred on Friday at around 12:40 p.m. behind Banki Motor Park in Wajari Ward.

‎According to the police, a 12-year-old boy, Mustapha Tijja, was injured while playing with four friends in a makeshift structure behind the motor park.

‎Daso added that the IED, found in the bush, accidentally detonated, informing that Mustapha was rushed to the FHI 360 Clinic and he is currently receiving treatment.

‎The statement gave the names of the four children that died as: Awana Mustapha, 15; Malum Modu, 14; and Lawan Ibrahim and Modu Abacha, both 12.

‎The spokesperson of the Police also stated that normalcy has since been restored in the area while investigations are ongoing.

‎He also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has advised the public to avoid handling unknown objects and to report suspicious items immediately.
