The Enugu State Government has announced a restriction of movement across the six local government areas and 102 electoral wards in Enugu North Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s senatorial by-election.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government said the restriction would be in force from 12:00 am (midnight) to 6:00 pm to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible election.
According to the statement, only officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security personnel, accredited election observers, media practitioners, and other duly authorised election duty personnel will be permitted to move during the period.
“The people and residents of the district are encouraged to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully and in accordance with electoral guidelines. Political parties, candidates, and their supporters are also urged to remain law-abiding during and after the exercise,” the statement said.
Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.
The government commended residents for their cooperation and wished Enugu North Senatorial District a peaceful and successful election.
