The Abia State Police Command says it has arrested Agwu Ukpo, 37, of Akanu Ohafia, Abia State, for allegedly assaulting a woman in a viral video.
DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, Police Public Relations Officer, said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Abia Command, apprehended the suspect based on actionable intelligence.
Chinaka stated that the suspect was captured in the video assaulting one Amarachi Chiyere over a dispute relating to a pot of soup.
She said the case was under discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The PPRO said the command condemned the act of domestic violence, describing it as barbaric and inhumane.
Chinaka reiterated that such behaviour is unacceptable under any circumstances. She urged members of the public to desist from all forms of violence.
She added that the command remained committed to ensuring justice in the state and that perpetrators of crime would face the law.
