Member House of Representatives, representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has declared support for the proposed Anim State, in the ongoing constitution review exercise.
Newwbuka reports that Ugochinyere, who had sponsored a bill for the creation of Orlu State, in a statement, said himself and other lawmakers have settled for Anim as the 6th state in the South East.
He noted that the interest of his federal constituency, as canvassed in his proposal for the creation of Orlu State, has been subsumed into the proposal for Anim State, in the overall benefit of the South East geo-political zone.
Ugochinyere, added that Anim proposal captures the agenda of a long overdue state for the South East, which should emerge from the old Imo and Anambra block, adding that the formal proposal for Anim State was presented before fellow lawmakers from the South East, who, by majority votes, voted Anim State as the consensus state proposed for South East agitation for additional state.
He added that the critical point is that no matter their desires, the interest of the people of South East must remain supreme.
