The Member, Aba South State Constituency, in the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, has been elected The Speaker of the Abia State 8th Assembly.
Emeruwa was elected unopposed after the member for Aba Central, Ucheonye Akachukwu nominated him, describing him as an Abian with impeccable character, adding that he has all it takes to steer the ship of the House.
Meanwhile, during the nomination of the Deputy Speaker, disagreement ensued when the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Okoro Uchenna, nominated member for Umuahia
East, Austin Okezie Nmeregini as the Deputy Speaker.
Angered that the Clerk of the House, Pedro Orokansi did not recognise him for further nomination, the member for Obingwa East, Solomon Akpulonu, got angry, walked to the Clerk, accusing him of sending wrong signal to the public.
Despite the altercations, the Clerk administered the oath of allegiance on the member for Umuahia East State Constituency, Austin Okezie Nmeregini as the Deputy Speaker as well as other members of the 8th Assembly.
Meanwhile, in his speech after his emergence as the Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, thanked his constituents for bringing him to the hallowed chambers, pledging to steer the ship of the house with openness.
He promised to serve Ndi Abia with sincerity, saying they will churn out laws that will prosper the people of Abia, and attract investors.
Rt. Hon Emeruwa promised to uphold the confidence his constituents reposed in him and not fail them.
After exhausting items on the order paper, the House adjourned plenary to 27th June, 2023.
