A Deputy Director, Environmental Health in Abia State, Mrs Obi Madukaihuaku, has charged Abians to keep their surroundings clean against new wave of diseases like diphtheria.
Addressing newsmen on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Sam Nwogu on Saturday after the January Monthly Sanitation exercise, she said the call has become important in view of the deplorable state of some homes in Abia and the outbreak of the bacteria disease known as diphtheria in some states in the country.
She reminded Abians that cleanliness is next to Godliness, stating that the Coronavirus disease and now the latest diphtheria is still ravaging, stressing that the only way to check these diseases was to maintain personal hygiene and a healthy environment.
Mrs Madukaihuaku, harped on the need for Abians to maintain healthy environment, reiterating that diseases cannot thrive in such places.
On compliance to the January monthly sanitation exercise, she revealed that the reason for the low participation was due to the Central Bank of Nigeria policy on redesign of new currencies: N200, N500, N1000, saying that most Abians devoted their time going to Banks in the state to change their old notes before the January 31st deadline.
