The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, Town Planner, Chukwudi Stephen Nwazue, is urging members and Abians in general, to ensure they pick their Permanent Voters Cards from accredited voting points in the State.
TPl Nwazue, who made the call in Umuahia on Monday, while interacting with newsmen, said Nigerians and Abians have sat on the fence for years, pointing out that this year’s election should bring about positive changes in the country if the masses allow their conscience(s) guide their choice of leaders.
He said the right to vote for credible leaders exclusively rests with the masses, maintaining that such rights can be exercised if those that are yet to collect their PVC, rise up and ensure that they get it before the January 29th deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).
TPl Nwazue, also reminded the electorate that acquiring their Permanent Voter Cards is one thing, while voting their conscience is another thing, charging them to resist all inducements on the day of election and go ahead to vote for credible people who will give them a new lease of life.
He stated that the mistakes of the past can be corrected through the ballots, advising the electorate to also resist all inducements on the day of election even as politicians have perfected strategies to woo voters on the day of election.
TPl Nwazue pleaded with members and Abians at large, to make good use of this period to claim their PVC, emphasizing that they cannot afford to give any excuse as to why they did not participate in the process of electing people at various levels of government to change the sorry State of Nigeria and Abia State.
While expressing optimism at the emergence of credible leaders at the polls, TPl Nwazue, said given the existence of the Electoral Act as amended by the National Assembly, the votes of the masses will count at the polls.
Therefore they should avoid any form of excuse.
