An overwhelming applause has trailed the proposed rural and community development agenda by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections in Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne.
It would be recalled that community and rural development is one of the legs on which Prof. Ikonne’s administration will run if elected governor in next year’s election.
The agenda has elicited overwhelming applause from Abians who posited that Prof Ikonne’s is visionary by conceiving the agenda as one of the drivers of his administration.
Ike Ojukwu, a social affairs commentator, says that the agenda is the best way to go as over 75 percent of the population occupy the rural areas in a developing economy such as Nigeria.
He noted that development of rural centres will provide employment opportunities for teeming the population, especially youths, and discourage rural-urban migration.
