A Governorship hopeful under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Mr Etigwe Uwa, (SAN) has faulted the idea of anointing candidates in Abia State, stressing that time has come for Abians to reject the practice.
He said though the situation and efforts by Abians to stop the practice has not yielded any result, there is need to redouble efforts to stop the practice as it has not re-shaped development in the State.
Etigwe who stated this while interacting with newsmen in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, on Sunday, said Abia State has been in a deplorable situation over the past years, frowning that the State cannot compete with other neighbouring States, as a result of the level of decay and mismanagement by past administrations
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said he has been perturbed for years by the situation in his dear state and has developed passion to make things better, change the narratives while also restoring and redeeming Abia State. He said the deplorable condition in Abia cuts across all sectors, including health, education, non-payment of salaries of pensioners as well as other important parastatals, pointing out that Abia is begging for redemption.
He said time has come to re-write the story of Abia, reiterating that if he emerges as the Governor of Abia, he will make the health sector in Abia more efficient as he intends to build primary health facilities that will cut across the 17 LGAs of the State,
Uwa said it is disheartening that schools in the State lack equipment which will enable them work effectively, revealing that his emergence as the Governor will witness provision of modern learning facilities to help the students excel, expressing worry that even with the poor facilities in the education sector, Abia kids are still taking good positions.
He re-emphasized the need to harness oil wells while acknowledging that the resources Abia is blessed with, is enough to sustain the future of Abians as he will make Abia a manufacturing hub and turn around the economy of the state to be number one while also harping on the need to channel attention to renewable energy which most developed countries have adopted.
The legal luminary maintained that the state cannot continue to rely on monies that accrue to it by the Federal Account, pointing out that Abia and Nigeria can draw a lot from Rwanda, a country that is doing well despite years of turmoil ranging from genocide, among other issues.
Bar. Uwa promised to reposition Aba by improving the transportation system, improve the power situation in the commercial nerve centre by synergizing with the Geometry. He said he plans to set up a system in Aba that will encourage Aba artisans to promote garments and foot-wears for the International market, adding that he will also engage in production of solar panels among others to cushion the effects of poor power deficit in Aba and West Africa at large.
He informed that he has purchased nomination and expression of interest forms to run for the office of the Governor of the State come 2023 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA after due consultations with critical stakeholders, calling on Abians to join hands and support him to achieve Abia of their dreams and aspirations.
Bar. Uwa, said he believes in APGA as a party that shoulders the aspirations of Ndi Igbo, stressing that APGA resonates the Igbo ideology.
