Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, has commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State for limiting the preparation of structural plans for the three major cities in Abia State namely: Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia.
The Chairman of the Institute, Tpl Stephen Chukwudi Nwazue, who made the commendation while interacting with newsmen in Umuahia at the weekend, said the importance of the plan if well executed cannot be overstated.
He said apart from aiding cum guarding the physical development interest of the State when implemented, the public will also appreciate the role of town planners in execution of the plan if carried out and followed to a logical conclusion.
Tpl Nwazue also applauded the Abia State Government for paying in their counterpart funding for the purpose of preparing the plans, adding that their commitment will expedite action on the preparation of the designs.
He prayed that Abia State will be blessed with a town planning friendly Governor as the State prepares for change of government in 2023.
While urging the Abia State Government through the Ministry of Lands Survey and Urban Planning, not to relent in making sure that the design is completed in record time, Tpl Nwazue enjoined other State Governments in Nigeria to borrow a clue from Abia State, revealing that the bad structural defects of our cities in Nigeria needs to be corrected to make our cities share similar look with that of countries in the developed countries.
