The President of the Nigerian Senate, Dist. Sen. Dr Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker Nigerian House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila alongside lawmakers from the APC divide of the National Assembly will play host to Nigeria’s foremost philanthropist, former Governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Imo West, Owelle Rochas Okorocha on Wednesday 23rd March 2022 at the confines of the National Assembly.
Credible sources hint that Senator Okorocha will first meet with the APC Senators to be followed by another meeting with APC House of Representatives Members on the said date. It is believed that he will be seeking for their support for the 2023 Presidential race having first notifed the upper chambers several weeks back of his intention to run for the exalted office.
The former Governor of Imo state and business mogul is not a newcomer to the race having vied for the same office three times in the past. At a World Press Conference on 31st February, 2022 with a lot of pomp and pageantry to formally notify the nation of his presidential quest; Okorocha displayed his characteristic oratory skills while enumerating his credentials of a unifier, wealth creator and a man with a compassionate heart for the less privileged.
His consultations with his colleagues from the APC caucus at the National Assembly is coming at the heels of the party’s convention on 26th March 2022 where intrigues and anxiety have been the hallmarks in the last two weeks.
The south east region of the country has been the part of the country of major focus by most political organizaions and players for the 2023 Presidential polls given a lot sentiments that they must be given a chance to produce the next President of the country due to an age long dearth of the country’s no 1 and 2 spots from there.
Okorocha is strongly touted to douse tensions that may arise from a region who have continually expressed displeasure at the polity’s perceived unfair treatment. This is due to his image as a detribalized Nigerian, speaks another major Nigerian language, has huge investments in most states across the country(across the six geo political regions), offering free education for over 22 years ago with schools in those states way before he ventured into politics.
