A swift intervention by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State command on Friday, prevented youth in old Umuahia from lynching a man in his late 50s who specializes in obtaining by trick (419), kidnapping, snatching of phone, armed robbery among other crimes.
The man who gave his name as Azubuike, was alleged to be the ring leader of a gang terrorising Old Umuahia, Isi Court and other flash points.
Luck ran out on Azubuike, when he was dropped off by a member of his group for their nefarious activities. On stopping close to Saint Silas Anglican Church, Old Umuahia, a boy whose phone was stolen last month by Azubuike’s gang recognised him and raised alarm which drew the attention of youth of the area.

At this point, youth from the area gathered, asked Azubuike his mission, as he confessed to having been involved in obtaining by trick, snatching of phone, kidnapping among others just as he presented some materials used in perfecting his strategies.
Confirming the identity of Azubuike, a woman in the area who gave her name as Ngozi and also a victim of Azubuike’s escapades, alleged that Azubuike stormed her shop not long ago, with his gang, confused her sales girl through diabolic means and made away with valuables, adding that the incident rendered her bankrupt.

Another tricycle operator, who plies the area also alleged that Azubuike and his gang robbed a passenger he was carrying the sum of N200,000, revealing that he recognised him the day he carried out the act.
But as the youth was about lynching the suspect, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State command, immediately stormed the area, appealed to the youth, and whisked Azubuike away in their Hilux Van.
