Overtime, there has been a decripit attitude among the populace in trading the blame war with venomous vituperative utterances against the government at the Centre -though not completely absolving them in regard to the numerous problems bedeviling the country- while being pretentious of the fact that there cannot be a Federation without the existence of federating units.
Nigeria is made up of 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory and drawing funds as due to each from the Government at the Centre, irrespective of revenue generated internally for the development of infrastructure and other necessities as demanded for the well-being of all.
However, it has become a recurring decimal among administrative liliputians to turn the other way with regards to asking questions and making demands as to how accruals to their various Local Governments and States are spent, with that line of argument seen as a taboo and those in positions of authority perceived as demigods and overlords, whose words are final.
Performance has become partisan, as anyone outside one’s political affiliation is an outright failure, who must be dragged to the political Golgotha and crucified, whether Pontius Pilate washes his hands or not.
Nigerian youths have allowed themselves to become so zombiefied that their value has been so dehumanized so much so that they are made to make enemies of whoever does not agree with their benefactor.
The present political dispensation with one or two exceptions will expire by the 29th of May, 2023 and in most federating units, there is little or absolutely nothing to show for holding the people’s mandate in trust because the States are seen as fiefdoms or conquered territories and by implication, a personal property.
Some States have become glorified autonomous communities and any attempt to make germane enquiries spells doom for the enquirer, who must be hounded down at all cost.
The kernel of the matter is the manner the so called activists and watchdogs of society turn the other way in the face of gross maladministration and financial ineptitude or become as cool as cucumber whenever their palms are greased as the system can bleed to death for all they care.
The time is near as the 2023 elections are speeding up fast and one begins to wonder if manifestoes of 1999 are not going to be dusted up and thrown at our faces, 24 years after.
It is disheartening to see that at this age of our political history, campaigns are still based on development of infrastructure!
The general populace looked the other way while power has been hijacked by those without conscience. This is the reason Nigeria has lagged behind and made a laughing stock in the comity of nations and the federating units ‘developing’ at no speed at all.
The earlier the citizens wake up for the hypnotism of looking the other way and coming to terms with the fact that the society must give back what has been given to it, then and only then will the words of Socrates make a new sense to us that evil triumph when the good men sit and watch it happen.
Salute to the good men who will heed this call to make the system work by harrassing out of the way luciferous and blood sucking men who will stop at nothing till we all bleed to death.
God forbid.
