Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane scored in the first half to give Liverpool the lead before Mane had a second goal ruled out by VAR.
Enock Mwepu pulled one back for Brighton in the 41st minutes and Leandro Trossard equalised in the 65th minutes to complete the comeback.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, who are unbeaten missed the chance of catching up with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League, as they are now three points behind Thomas Tuchel’s men who trashed Newcastle United at the Saint James’ Park 3-0.
