Military rulers in Myanmar on Sunday pledged to cooperate with a peace plan agreed with ASEAN, despite lampooning the regional bloc for excluding the country’s top commander from a summit slated for this week.
The junta in an announcement, said it upholds the principal of peaceful co-existence with other countries and would work with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in following a five-point consensus reached in April, backed by the West and China.
Recall that ASEAN Foreign Ministers had decided on October 15 to relegate Min Aung Hlaing, leader of a February 1 Myanmar coup, for failing to implement that plan, which included ending hostilities, coming up with dialogue, allowing humanitarian support and granting a special envoy full access in the country.
