Barbados an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, has elected its first ever President as the country prepares to become a republic.
The elected President, 72 year old Dame Sandra Mason will be sworn in on 30 November, which will mark the country’s 55th anniversary of independence from Britain.
Dame Sandra is the first woman to serve on the Barbados Court of Appeals and has been governor-general since 2018.
