Social Media: NOA Makes Case for Regulation, Cites Decline in Societal Values

As calls for the regulation of social meadia continues to take front burner in Nigeria, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) is of the opinion that unregulated social media and internet had caused a steady decline in social values among young persons.

The Lagos State Director of the NOA, Mr Waheed Ishola who said the content of a lot of internet and social media sites does not reflect traditional African values, norms among others, also said there is also a reduction in communal discipline as correcting erring children was frowned at by parents.

He revealed that the Agency was presently working with international donor organisations as part of efforts geared towards fighting moral decline and protect the susceptible in the society, especially women and children.
