Goods worth billions of naira were gutted by fire on Sunday at the biggest market, “Nkwogbe” in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State.
The cause of the inferno which started around 1pm in the afternoon is not yet ascertained as there are conflicting reports as to the actual cause.

A source from the area, Okwundu Uchenna who spoke to newsbuka.com on phone, said it has been alleged that the fire emanated from a debris that was lit in the area.
Uchenna informed that another version of the incident claimed that the fire was caused by a generator which was on as someone tried to refill fuel.
He revealed that men from the Anambra fire service arrived an hour after the fire had destroyed property worth billions of naira, adding that their arrival prevented the fire from advancing towards the Total Filling Station, Ihiala.

Okwundu stated that the little goods saved, was as a result of heavy downpour that fell in the afternoon, noting that traders in the market are in sorrowful mood counting their losses.
